The Path Home

The central idea of this project named “My way home” (the project’s name was inspired by Karel Václav Rais’s poem of the same name) is the work with the memory of a landscape. The project concerns a 700-metre-long area which is part of what used to be a road near Stráž nad Nežárkou. First of all, I try to return the road its original purpose. Also, I try to find out its historic foundation. Finally, I try to return the road its integrity. The road used to go from the village of Dvorce to the now cancelled Gabler’s mill (house number 98) in Stráž nad Nežárkou. The Diploma also includes an observation of the changes of the landscape near the village. The Diploma itself consists of three phases: The road, apple trees, The object.

The thesis deals with current cultural landscape and reflection of individual social topics in Europe. The installation consists of three objects that solve the individual theme, using material experiments. Their reactions shift these topics further to certain associations.

Evaluation of the development of the Ezgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region after its inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List

This thesis is focused on the effects of inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The main goal was to obtain information about this issue on the specific example of the Czech part of the Ezgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region from the point of view of local stakeholders. Sub- goals are focused on heritage management in the given region, benefits and disadvantages associated with this inscription, motivation of local stakeholders to use it and identification of these stakeholders. In order to find out what effect this inscription had on local stakeholders from the public and private spheres, semi-structured interviews were used. The obtained data were evaluated using open coding and thematic analysis. The research itself can be divided into three phases. In the first phase, a list of stakeholders involved in the process of creation, protection and interpretation of mining heritage was created. The second phase consisted of interviews with local stakeholders, namely representatives of municipalities and entrepreneurs. In the last stage, these interviews were evaluated and summarized.

Landscape for Breeding Horses as a New UNESCO Heritage

The bachelor's thesis deals with the evaluation of the impact of the inscription of the Landscape for the Breeding and Training of Ceremonial Carriage Horses in Kladruby nad Labem on the World Heritage List from the point of view of actors in the public, private and non-profit spheres. This inscription took place in July 2019 and it is now possible to study its further development. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the presentation of the UNESCO organization and the evaluation of the possible effects of the inscription of the monument on the World Heritage List according to the literature. It is also focused on the analysis of the Landscape for the Breeding and Training of Ceremonial Carriage Horses in Kladruby nad Labem. The second part presents the research, which was focused on evaluating the impact of the inscription on the World Heritage List using semi-structured interviews with the individual actors mentioned above. One of the main findings is, for example, that respondents consider the increased level of professional care of the estate to be the greatest benefit. On the contrary, disruption of the daily life of local residents can be considered as a negative impact. Small sacral monuments of the Nova Rise and the surrounding area and their use in education

The aim of this master thesis is to study and map small sacral monuments within a selected area - the area of Nová Říše and its immediate surroundings. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first theoretical part deals with description and mapping of the small sacral monuments in the area. The aim is to explain the historical significance of those monuments in the landscape and to characterize, with help of period sources, literature and the testimonies of witnesses, the spirit of the place the small sacral monuments bring to the landscape. The second part of the theses focuses on the practical side and is looking for the ways on how to involve the public as a part of the education, especially children and youngsters so that the legacy of these silent witnesses in the landscape would last for generations to come. The work is based on relevant academic literature, contemporary sources and also on the interviews with old-timers, story catchers and also with experts on the subject. Protection plan of landscape conservation zones

The cultural landscape is part of the world's wealth contributing to the consolidation of European identity (see Council of Europe Convention on Landscape). The protection of the cultural landscape is possible through the Institute of Landscape Conservation Zones (LCZ). Effective systematic protection and care of the cultural values of LCZ should be ensured with effect from 1.1. 2009, the so-called conservation plan, which entered the legislation by amendment to the Monuments Act No. 307/2008 Coll. (§6a). In connection with this legal arrangement, Decree No. 420/2008 Coll. of November 28, 2008, which establishes the requirements and content of the plan for the protection of heritage reserves and monument zones. However, the Institute of Protection Plan is not widely used to date, it is still a relatively unknown tool among the professional public. This could be changed by an amendment to Decree No. 420/2008 Coll. as amended by Decree 3/2023 Coll. effective as of 1 July 2023. The new wording of Decree No. 420/2008 Coll. makes it possible to fully protect the values (their essence) in the territory of the landscape conservation zone. The contribution presents the purpose, goals and meaning of the protection plan and presents the content of such a document in more detail, giving an example of the Náměšťsko LCZ, where the acquisition of a protection plan is currently underway, with regard to the amended wording of Decree No. 420/2008 Coll. Draft of protection plan in the territory of the Náměšťsko LCZ shows a significant shift in the hierarchization and differentiation of the approach to the application of binding opinions of the state conservation authorities.

Historical cultural landscape of the deserted settlements in the Kaplice region

The open landscape of the former district of Kaplice, situated between the Bohemian Forest and Gratzen Mountains on the Czech-Austrian border, has stimulated economic and cultural exchange between the two territories since prehistoric times. From the second half of the 13th century until the events after the Second World War, the region was predominantly inhabited by German-speaking population, but after the displacement the area underwent a turbulent development. Within a few years, socio-demographic changes have got imprinted in the landscape, and today several overlapping phenomena can be observed, which together reflect the process of transformation of the area. At the beginning of the 1950s, many settlements disappeared as a result of under-population and the construction of the Iron Curtain. Nevertheless, there are still remains of the use of the landscape by its former inhabitants, especially in the form of relics of buildings, religious architecture, roads, hedgerows, landscaping, waterworks and other traces. The securing of the national border has brought a further transformation of the landscape, which has had a devastating effect on the cultural heritage, but on the other hand it has helped to develop natural communities that are now protected. Even after the fall of communism, the region has not reached the population of the pre-war period, so the absence of settlement continues to give the area a unique genius loci. However, the cultural and historical values of the landscape are not yet protected on a basis, therefore the paper seeks to introduce the values and emphasises the need to protect them.

Krajinářská studie modelového území

This bachelor thesis is devoted to the topic of Landscape study. The thesis represents tools and methods that affect, assess and protect the landscape of the Czech Republic. It is mainly international and national legislative tools and tools of economic support. Out off methods it is devoted to the ones that are concerned about landscape protection and preservation. Thorough survey of all the available basis and field research were made in the model area, the area of cadastre of the village Šonov, Based on this analysis the overall concept of the area was created. This concept leads to preservation of natural and social-cultural values in this area. In some areas it is executed more in detail and these proposals are for instance about antierosion measures, territorial system of ecological stability, rehabilitation of sacred sites etc.
